Rowlett

The City of Rowlett, part of the Dallas, Texas Metroplex, spans roughly 22 square miles across eastern Dallas and western Rockwall Counties. Predominantly within Dallas County's limits, Dalrock Road marks the county line. Lake Ray Hubbard encircles the city on two sides, functioning as both a water reservoir and a recreational lake.

First Settlements
Settlement in what is now Rowlett began in the 1840s. The area's first post office opened on April 5, 1880, initially named Morris after Postmaster Austin Morris, and was later renamed to honor Rowlett Creek, a significant tributary of the Trinity River.

Following the Civil War, railroads expanded westward, bringing new settlers. Towns like Rowlett owe their origins to railroads and cotton gins. The Greenville and Dallas Railroad arrived in Rowlett in 1889, and by the century's end, it was a bustling farming community with a variety of stores and services.

20th Century Rowlett
The Bankhead Highway, America's second transcontinental paved highway, reached Rowlett in 1921, stretching from Washington, D.C., to San Diego, California. In 1952, Rowlett became an incorporated city following a vote by 84 citizens.

Lake Ray Hubbard's completion in 1971 transformed Rowlett into a lakeside community, prompting inevitable growth. The population surged from 5,100 in 1978 to over 64,000 residents today.
